Los Koplowitz wearing DAA in Madrid

The spanish electro-pop band Los Koplowitz brang Designers Against AIDS to Madrid's nightlife scene in a live act last thursday 8th of May. The night was something in between a gig, a body-painting performance and a good laugh -in which the couple wore Jade Jagger's t-shirts from the Fashion Against AIDS collection.

It can be remarkable the fact that they tried to add pink condoms to their outfit in an attempt to show a bubble-gum getting out from that mouth... Well, maybe the result was not that spectacular! but, at least, they devoted their act to the fight against AIDS in their crazy and funny way. Such a pitty they normally sing in Spanish! lol

Andrés now on Facebook launching MODELS AGAINST AIDS

Designers Against AIDS are glad to announce that finally our project Models Against AIDS is being launched properly. The main goal of this whole thing is inform girls and boys who dream of becoming a model  about HIV/AIDS and safe sex, but also MAA will mean fund-raising for future AIDS awareness programs -for every booking, each model and their agency will donate 1% to DAA. Furthermore, models will take part in future campaigns, give lectures at schools, speak out during interviews and at events and motivate their collegues to also join MAA.

Then, in order to recruit as many models as possible, we have launched a new facebook profile which will be used to promote MAA through the whole fashion community as well. We expect to reach lots of cool faces, and even smarter minds, who care and want to join us in this exciting initiative! Check it now: www.facebook.com/profile.php

Chicks Mix

When four crazy smart girls meet up and mix their huge talent –never mind they perform on a stage, a museum or an art gallery...- one thing is clear: you are dealing with the Chicks on Speed. And Maria Club in Berlin expected a Chicks’ hurricane for the Fashion Against AIDS launch party -which took place the 7th of February.

I was at that party and I swear all of you guys that it was not a hurricane, it was even worse! I mean... the gig itself was gorgeous and it became a hilarious performance in which lots of people from the public were requested to jump on the stage. I felt tension during the whole gig due to the massive dancing but the girls knew how to manage the whole situation. And then, in the middle of all this premeditated chaos, Peaches appeared to sing her lyrics on “We don't play guitars”. That was the point in which madness achieved its highest point of the night.

And we have found the tube! Check the video below (despite of the bad quality) and enjoy the Chicks.

Become our model ;)

I’d like to introduce Kore to all of you guys. She’s a spanish girl who sent us this picture few weeks ago. She’s wearing Chicks on Speed t-shirt from FAA collection and she states she’s such a big fan of the girls but the very reason she bought the tanktop was to join the cause. Then we realized we should make something with this picture and suddenly we decided to ask all of you, the ones who own some of the FAA tees, to send us your images wearing them.

Why? The idea is to pay you a warm tribute because eventually you are the ones who supported our AIDS awareness campaign. Then, you deserve to be one of our Models against AIDS, share your pictures and show off your personal contribution to the fight against AIDS!

Pictures are all welcome in our mail address: info@designersagainstaids.com

White Show / Milan
Hello guys!

Two weeks ago we were invited by Iqons.com (the fashion community on the net) to take part in White Show, a fashion fair in Milan. As soon as we got the proposal we thought it would be an exciting possibility to show our forthcoming collection fall-winter 08/09, but also we realized we could set there a nice exhibition of the Fashion Against AIDS campaign. Thanks to the support of H&M, Iqons.com and White, we were in Milan from February 21st to 24th, even though it was a last-minute decision and we had to arrange everything in a hurry.

Eventually our room looked great and the visitors showed, in most of the cases, their words of support. They liked the way we presented our clothes and -even more- the concept behind them. On the other hand, we could also find that some of them were suspicious about the idea of our partnership with H&M in the FAA campaign. This could be understandable concerning the context but finally, after explaining the goal of Fashion Against AIDS, most of them agreed that this was the perfect way of reaching young people -and this makes us very proud of our work.

Thanks to all the people who dropped by!

We like her and, as you can see, she likes us as well! This is one of her last gigs where she was wearing "Face It" tee, designed by Chicks on Speed, from our "Fashion Against AIDS" collection. Just lovely!

FASHION AGAINST AIDS' Night Out!
Yesterday while out in Brussels I went to a trendy party in which I had an amazing surprise. I was standing in the cash desk and then the employee came to me in Justice's tee, from the FAA collection!

I took the pic, with a cell phone, and that guy started to pose being so proud of his contribution, as I'd be!. And I also found  that one of the party animals was in Jade Jagger's blue tee but the lack of light didn't let me take a picture at all, such a pitty!.

It's so exciting how people are really supporting our cause everywhere and you know... just one day after our launch!

Thanks to everyone.

Protect
Protect yourself,
and the ones you love....
Use a condom...!!

I could not agree more with this statement...

But, I would like to add something.
Because, it's not really a hopefull thought,
that it would allways be necessary to protect yourself.

Don't get me wrong... protection is good, and is a lifesafer when it's needed,
but there has to be a time, that the protection is no longer needed...
We are talking about sex, right?
Safe sex, the real thing, is sex, where the protection is no longer needed...
And, when does one know, if the protection is no longer needed?
That is not something that can be achieved in a very short period...
and that's just as well...
Safe Sex is not something you will find in a disco, or with multiple partners
those are forms of unsafe sex, and then it's obvious that you need protection.

Safe Sex, is the thing that you only can achieve, when you truly commit yourself to Love your partner.
PLUS, and let's not forget that, that your partner truly commits him/herself to Love you.

To want only the best possible for one another, means to be as sure and certain as possible that all harmfull possibilities have been ruled out...
So, go and have the full medical test, which can determine upto +90% if you are or are not HIV infected...

Consider all sex, between having the test, and receiving the results, to be unsafe, no matter what...
And when you receive the results, act accordingly
if you are HIV infected, well, only one thing to do then, tough as it sounds, but protect your partner in the first place, and secondly all others...

If the test says you are not infected, there is this -10% chance it might be wrong... a slim but existing chance, you will however take, when you really (and by that time you should know) trust, love and take care of one another...

If you are having a relations, which seems to be going steady, it might be even more bonding to take the test together, and wait for the results together.

My first entry in the Blog!

Hi everyone! Here's my first entry in DAA’s new Blog! My name is Andrés Pina and I’ve been involved in this adventure called “Designers against AIDS” for a few months already. When I arrived here in Antwerp, Belgium (I'm from Spain originally) I could actually feel that something was in the air, something big indeed, but who could have guessed that it would grow up that quickly? Now, after three months, we can talk about Fashion against AIDS (see the blog posted below) as a huge campaign all over the world that aims to raise AIDS awareness among young people. I must say that I’m absolutely proud of our collection, in partnership with H&M, because it is necessary to rethink on AIDS and how to reach young people. Using fashion and celebrities, I’m sure we’ll be able to shout out a message of prevention and protection!

Telling the world about HIV/AIDS
It's been more than a year ago now since we contacted H&M with the proposal to do a collection together, aimed at young people in the industrialised world- and four years since we started 'Designers against AIDS'. Since then, HIV infections have risen again in the 'rich' countries, particularly among young homosexual men and heterosexual women.

How this can happen, when everybody in these countries has access to cheap condoms beats us, but there can be several reasons: young people don't realise that HIV/AIDS is still present in their country as well as further away, they drink a lot of alcohol or consume drugs that make them more careless when dating -or they simply don't care - rebelling against the advice of parents and teachers is what you do when you're a teenager, after all. Except in this case it's not very smart, as it can kill you, or at least make you very ill, even when you take anti-retroviral medicines.

Living in a culture obsessed with celebrity, we figured that if young people don't listen to their parents or teachers anymore, there's a chance that they DO listen to their favorite singer or band. Which is why we founded DAA in 2004 and have worked with celebs such as The Cure, Scissor Sisters, Faithless (with their slogan 'AIDS is a weapon of mass destruction. Use a condom'- how much clearer can you get?), Playboy, Calvin Klein, Rogan Gregory...over 100 musicians, fashion designers and other artists so far.

After H&M gave their OK for the 'Fashion against AIDS' collection, DAA's creative director Javier Barcala and I started to contact celebrities to ask them if they would like to participate with a design to this collection and most of them were very enthousiasitc right from the start. With the result that now we have designs by Nina Persson (The Cardigans), Katharine Hamnett, Rihanna, Chicks on Speed, Good Charlotte, Rufus Wainwright, Timbaland, Ziggy Marley, Scissor Sisters, Tiga, My Chemical Romance, Jade Jagger, Henrik Vibskov  and Justice. And this really makes us want to D.A.N.C.E.!
Timbaland and me

We're very happy that the 'Designers against AIDS' blog went live this weekend -and even happier that our 'Fashion against AIDS' collection - in cooperation with H&M- will arrive in stores worldwide on January 31st. For us this is the perfect way to reach as many young people as possible with the message that HIV/AIDS is still very much here as well as further away and that it makes sense to take care when having sex.  We would like to thank all artists who participated to the FAA collection: Timbaland (pictured here with me at one of the campaign shoots; this one took place in Miami Beach), Rihanna, Justice, Rufus Wainwright, Chicks on Speed, Katharine Hamnett, Henrik Vibskov, Jade Jagger, Scissor Sisters, Good Charlotte, My Chemical Romance, Ziggy Marley, singer Nina Perssons from The Cardigans and last but certainly not least, Tiga.

Do you think this approach works in making people more aware about the situation on HIV/AIDS in the industrialised world? Please let us know -we'd love to see what you think!
Elise Crombez loves DAA!

'Fashion against AIDS' got their first cover on Belgian lifestyle weekly Weekend Knack, with top model Elise Crombez wearing one of the T-shirts that Jade Jagger designed for us. For sale from January 31st in all H&M stores that stock 'Divided'!
