This is what Lou Doillon and Elizabeth Jagger, the two female celebrity models in our next 'Fashion against AIDS' campaign with H&M, said about their participation to FAA in an interview that we saw last weekend in Nina Magazine.Lou Doillon:"I think it's a responsible move. H&M has a real impact on young generations. It is of critical importance to keep in mind that HIV is still killing thousands a day and that we have not yet won the battle."
The fact that a lot of young people visit H&M every day is of course exactly the reason why Designers against AIDS proposed the concept for the FAA campaigns/collections to H&M way back in 2006 and we already see a change in attitude about HIV/AIDS among youth after two (and as of May 20th, three) collections. We truly believe that if we can keep the momentum going with Fashion against AIDS, new HIV infections among youth will lower eventually.
Why is it important to raise awareness about HIV/AIDS? Lou Doillon: "Because people forget! There was great awareness year’s back, when AIDS was first detected. But now is the time to be really careful. People seem to think that we are out of trouble and that we have won against this terrible disease. Sadly, we have not. There are over 33.4 million people living with it today. We need to stay aware and be responsible in delivering this message: keep safe!" What do you think you can do to inform young people of the importance of safe sex? Lou Doillon: "I will quote Jean Paul Gaultier, at the 2010 Sidaction (a gala in France that's being organised every year). When asked what was the trend for this summer, what accessory, he answered : "The best accessory has always been and will always be the condom." We couldn't have said it better ourselves, Jean Paul;-).
Adds Elizabeth Jagger: “I think it's a really great thing that H&M are doing to help in the fight against AIDS around the world and I am proud to be a part of it. AIDS can affect anyone and we need to be sure to keep young people educated and aware, so that this disease can't continue to spread." What do you think you can do to inform young people of the importance of safe sex?
Lizzie Jagger: "I think it is up to parents and teachers to be brave enough to talk to their children about safe sex." Let's hope Mick and Jerry told their children all the important facts of life!
