A study in San Francisco reveals a troubling truth: being in a gay relationship doesn’t mean you’re risk-free of HIV. In the past, single gay males have been the main target of HIV/AIDS prevention campaigns, but this recent study proves that gay male couples should not be ignored. Out of the 566 gay male couples that participated in the study, less than 45% said they were monogamous. Moreover, many couples had different ideas regarding their sexual agreements (defined as rules about having sexual partners outside the relationship).
So how do you protect yourself—and your partner? We at DAA encourage all couples (gay or straight) to be open and honest about the sexual agreement with your partner and to make sure that both parties understand the terms of this agreement! Talk it out - and keep it safe! Written by Candice Mai Khanh Nguyen
