A survey by Sensoa, the Flemish (part of Belgium) governmental institution for prevention of sexual diseases, has shown that teenagers and adolescents mostly ensure to have safe sex when they first get to know someone, but the longer a relationship lasts -and a few weeks is seen by many already as a steady relationship -,the less a couple contemplates on the risk of getting a sexually transmitted disease (STD).
Getting tested on any STD before banning the condom out of their bedrooms is essential, yet regrettably that's something that makes a lot of youngsters blush. There is hope though: the number of teens getting themselves tested has doubled over the past five years, but there's still a lack of concern about the importance of these tests. Shockingly, some youngsters even think the contraceptive pill makes the use of a condom unnecessary, when the only thing that can protect you from getting a STD is a condom and not the contraceptive pill -or any other pill for that matter. Conclusion to this story: Youngsters still neglect the importance of wearing a condom at all times.
Undoubtedly, this is not only happening in Belgium, but in other Western countries as well, since new HIV infections are still on the rise everywhere.
We hope that you play safe at any time and don't hesitate to get tested - it means that you're taking care of yourself, your body and the people you love.
